Sterling West

Sterling WestMy name is Sterling West and I am currently serving in the operations section at Park City Culinary Institute. I have always loved to cook and like many people that love to cook have my mother to thank for that. My story is not like others who had wonderful examples of culinary magic from their mother, my mother was a horrible cook. Her bland and tasteless food drove me to want to figure out how to add flavor to food and made me fall in love with cooking. My cooking experience has been novice until recently graduating from Park City Culinary Insitute with a Cuisine Certificate. It has truly elevated every level of my cooking and has removed the fear I had in the kitchen.

My culinary dreams were finally achieved later in my life due to my first career. I spent 20 years in the United States Army and retired as a Sergeant First Class. I held numerous military occupations to include 13J (Fire Direction Specialist), 13F (Forward Observer), 13B (Cannon Crewmember), 42A (Human Resources), and Instructor. During my career in the Army, I deployed twice overseas and was able to travel to some amazing places that made me fall in love with food and flavors even further. Some of the places I was lucky enough to visit include Japan 5 times, Turkey, Azerbaijan, South Korea, Germany, France, and Morocco. During my career, I spent time in numerous positions including senior human resources, operations manager, senior targeting specialist, battle staff instructor, and the master leadership course instructor.

In my spare time, I serve on a board of directors for a non-profit that connects military youth from Utah and the country of Morocco. I also have a small food prep business that allows me to pursue my love for food through my own menu.

My operational experience helped get me a job here at Park City Culinary Institute. With my years of experience as an instructor at the most senior level in the Army, I have enjoyed sharing tips and tricks to help develop our instructors to be the very best.

When people walk into to Park City Culinary Institute, I am typically the first face that they see. I am very social and have loved the opportunity to get to know so many wonderful students and guests. I look forward to serving and getting to know many others in the future.
